This 40-hour course teaches the technical skills and knowledge required for the safe response to HazMat/WMD incidents of rolling stock used in rail surface transportation at a level above that of a Tank Car Specialist. Participants will focus on performing confinement and containment exercises on leaking HazMat tank cars at the scene of rail HazMat/WMD surface transportation incidents. The TCS-A course will also provide technical knowledge pertaining to tank cars, including damage assessment, oversight for product removal, and movement of damaged tank and other rail cars present. Participants will conduct product removal using different transfer techniques on the various DOT containers used in rail transportation if students cannot make on-site tank car repairs. The skills acquired at this advanced specialty course are above and beyond that of a HazMat/WMD technician as well as a Tank Car Specialist. The TCS-A course provides technical information and includes extensive hands-on practice of incident actions on complex, full-scale, scenario-based rail HazMat/WMD surface transportation incidents.
