At the Security and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC) our commitment to students has been tested and proven over 38 years. That’s why nothing makes us more proud than hearing from students who found SERTC skills and training successful when they were called to respond in an emergency back home. For example, we recently heard from Stratmoor Hills Fire about an incident that put their training into action within our home state.
“We were called for a possible fuel leak on a semi rig. Once we located the apparatus, it was discovered that the driver’s passenger-side fuel tank had an approximately one inch hole in it parked right next to a runoff into a grassy area. Thankfully the right equipment was handy to begin absorbing and stopping any further spread quickly. Our initial idea was to plug the hole and just offload the one tank and let the driver get to a repair facility. After the hole was temporarily plugged, the tanks were found to be self leveling and had no shutoff so it was decided to have to offload both tanks.
Thanks to the outstanding training SERTC provided, we were able to jump into action and got to put all the skills to use in the real world. It felt exactly like being back in the class! The mantra ‘practice how you play’ comes heavily to mind!
Thanks for all you guys did to prepare me for the tech level experience! There was also a recently graduated highway specialist on hand as well, it was so great to have all the knowledge there to confer.”
Kudos to all the responders that day. We look forward to seeing you in the future.
