Established in 1985, the Security and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC) is operated by MxV Rail, a subsidiary of the Association of American Railroads.
Our original mission was to train railroad officials. The training proved to be so successful that classes were offered to other emergency responders. We now serve not only the transportation service industry, but also the public sector emergency response community, the chemical industry, government agencies, and emergency response contractors from all over the world. Our world-renowned program offers extensive, immersive, realistic training that includes full-scale scenarios to help responders be better prepared for surface transportation emergencies.
Our responsibility to you is to provide the very best hazmat training possible. We want you to understand the processes that are required to deal with a transportation accident involving hazmat and to understand the options that are available to you. Training on the actual transportation equipment that you’ll encounter in the field will help you to be prepared to deal with real world emergencies. Above all, we want you to be able to do your job safely and effectively.
We offer hands-on training based on OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 (q) and NFPA Standard 472 requirements including Hazmat Awareness, Operations, Technician, Specialist Level Courses and Incident Commander as well as advanced refresher courses.
SERTC’s professional staff has decades of combined experience in emergency response training, which promises the best hands-on training experience in the world.
Book a course and join more than 76,000 responders from diverse public and private sectors throughout the world who have trained at SERTC since its opening in 1985.
Our onsite resident courses range from 24 to 80 hours and are conducted at the SERTC training facility in Pueblo, Colorado. All modules are led by the skillful instructors of Team SERTC, drawing on their years of experience in fire service, hazmat response and contracting, emergency medical response, railroads, and industrial environments.
Our mission of delivering hazardous materials response training for all forms of surface transportation aligns with FEMA’s Strategic Plan. We strive to deliver vital training to whole and underserved communities and we support a prepared nation of first responders and receivers. SERTC offers 4- to 6-hour mobile courses that allow groups to train where they are on a schedule that works for them.
“I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how much I appreciated your class. You all were stellar instructors, and I truly learned a ton. But, even more importantly, I feel competent in understanding and being able to apply what I learned. I feel very confident that should I be called to an incident in my hometown, I would be comfortable in assuming command, initial planning and setup, and beginning the mitigation process for as long as was necessary to protect life. Thank you for the wonderful experience.”
