New SERTC Training Receives Top Marks

SERTC delivers expertise, knowledge and immersive training that enables first responders to “level up” in their preparedness for all manners of surface transportation incidents. This includes our latest AFFIRM course and curriculum focused on alternative fuels. Here’s what students had to say recently:

From Alternative Fuels and Flammable Incident Response and Management (AFFIRM) (18-Nov)

“It was all great info and with amazing instructors. The CNG information and lecture was extremely valuable. Hazard 3 was a great addition as well. L-I batteries also good as part of the course. Day 5 was great with the hands-on training.”

“Most valuable to me was the practical application of the foam and tank car cooling, because I’ve read and talked about it a lot, but have rarely been able to practice the skills. We have responded to a number of incidents, involving alternative fuel vehicle and battery response, but received little training and education due to its newness in the fire service.”

“I had little to no experience with railcars and mitigation before coming to SERTC. I will be able to take many of these ideas back to my department and train others!”

From Highway Emergency Response Specialist (HERS) (4-Nov)

“This was a great course with awesome instructors! I will be back for the rest of the courses offered at SERTC in the future.”

“The hands-on training was amazing. They had all of the types of containers available for hands on use. The instructors were professional, and also relatable, which held my interest.”

“The hands-on portion was great. The props are realistic and help the learning process. Meeting other firefighters is always a great part of these courses.”

From Tank Car Specialist (TCS) (4-Nov)

“Getting the general knowledge on HAZMAT and rail car transportation of materials was the most valuable part for me. We have a lot of rail come by in town, and I never knew what could be in those cars before I took this class.”

“The instructors were very professional and knowledgeable. 10/10!”

“Course design was phenomenal. SERTC instructors showed passion and expertise in the subjects they were covering. All around phenomenal class.”
